Yosemite

~ Yosemite ~

Ok, hello Yosemite one of my favourite places ever! I’m not sure if its because it was my birthday in a couple of days but this place had my heart as soon as we got there. The scenery is just amazing, you walk through the village and you can see the Yosemite waterfall from the streets, everything is so picturesque.

We did a little hike to mirror lake, which a lot of people do, its a cute little walk into the forests and to the lakes, we saw so much wildlife but our most exciting moment was coming across a Lynx, it was so cute but vicious at the same time. The whole walk (as we always take the long routes) was a few hours, I would definitely recommend taking some sandwiches and water in a backpack to keep you fuelled as we were sooo hangry by the time we got back to the RV.

Our biggest day was when we hiked to the top of the Yosemite falls, It was a pretty steep and rocky climb to the top but it is something you have to do when you are there. We set off at about 6am, it was so damn cold at first but you don’t really want to bring big coats when you’re hiking especially if its for hours! Getting up took us about 3 hours which we were pretty proud of considering we stopped to take photos every 10 minutes as every corner has something new to see!

Once we got to the top of the falls we decided to go off track and get as high as we could, James used maps.me to navigate us through the forrest as you don’t need wifi with this app. We had a birthday lunch of ham and cheese sandwiches, it really felt like we were on top of the world. After we had done all of our exploring we decided to head back down, this was actually pretty tough as the terrain is so rocky and sketchy it was so easy to slip over (which may have happened a few times). Once we were about 3/4 of the way down the track started to get really busy as the first part of this hike is for anyone and everyone who wants to get to the first viewing point so just be aware that your tired legs will also have to dodge loads of people.

There isn’t really much at all in Yosemite, a few cafes, a big diner hall thing and like one grocery store (which is expensive). The food in the diner hall is really expensive too, if you have a kitchen where you’re staying I advise you to cook up there. Also if you are in an RV bring stuff with you from one of the main towns before your drive up to Yosemite! We had an RV but we hadn’t booked any campsite, we didn’t realise you needed to book months in advance to even get a spot… so we ended up parking our RV in one of the car parks, totally not allowed to do this which is why there is campsites, they are apparently really strict on people doing this but we were there for like 3 nights and we never got moved on. I would still book a campsite so you can hook up to electricity and water etc because we lived off sandwiches and used only the water we had in the RV water tank which wasn’t very much at all.. for 4 days, safe to say we were living rough. Also before I forget you can also go for a little walk to the bottom of the Yosemite waterfall, which is amazing if you aren’t able to hike to the top as its still very impressive!
